Young Stamford Football Team Has Another Strong Season STAMFORD, Conn. – The Wolverines had another stellar season in the Mitey Mites division of the Stamford Youth Foundation football league. The league is instructional and scores are not kept, but coach Shawn Foster came away impressed by his team's play. “They worked hard to be their best,’’ coach Shawn Foster said. “In midseason we switched to a no huddle, silent snap, hurry up offense with all audibles. Norwalk 7th-Grade Football Team Wins League's Rose Bowl NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Packers 7th-grade Green team finished its season with a 44-24 win over Newtown in the Rose Bowl of the Colonial Football League. The Packers finished the season 7-3, and won their final six games. Evan Henry rushed for three touchdowns and scored another on a kickoff return. A.J. Hall ran for two scores and also caught a touchdown pass. Chandler Greene, who ran tough between the tackles all day, also ran for a score. Stamford Athlete Nears End Of Diverse Sports Career STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford’s Randi Schock played four sports at four schools during her high school and college career. But Saturday, the Southern Connecticut State University senior’s serendipitous journey will come to an end. Norwalk Soccer Celebrates After Reaching Elusive Goal NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk High School’s boys soccer team hasn't forgotten its losses in the first round of the league tournament in the last two years. The Bears used those losses to New Canaan as motivation this year. “We have 13 seniors on this team, and they want this,’’ coach Chris Laughton said after the Bears defeated Wilton, 5-1, in Tuesday’s semifinals. Youth Football Teams Play For Stamford Championships STAMFORD, Conn. – The championship games in the Stamford Youth Foundation football league are scheduled for Sunday at Boyle Stadium. The Elementary Division championship kicks off at 9 a.m. with the Giants and Cowboys. At 11 a.m., Rippowam meets Cloonan for the Middle School junior varsity championships. The Middle School varsity championship kicks off at 1:30 with Rippowam meeting Trinity. Rippowam went 6-0 during the regular season in the middle school varsity division, including a victory versus Trinity Catholic in the final game of the regular season. Trinity finished 5-1.

High-Scoring Ridgefield Soccer Stars Carry State Hopes RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — The Ridgefield High School boys soccer will have staying power in the state tournament for two reasons, coach Phil Bergen says. And their names are Kent Coleman and Joe DeVivo. The high-scoring forwards are the central weapons for the Tigers (15-2-1), who earned a share of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Greenwich. Ageless Stamford Marathoner Yearns For Another Chance STAMFORD, Conn. – Like most other runners, Stamford’s Arturo Montero was disappointed in the cancellation of the New York City Marathon. Now, the only runner who competed in the first one who was registered for this year’s race hopes to get at least one more chance. Montero, 77, was one of 127 runners who finished the first race in 1970. He has run almost every year since. These days, it is the only marathon he still runs. Long-Time Norwalk Football Coach Achieves Elusive Goal NORWALK, Conn. – The permanent record will show that Norwalk’s Bert Borges won the Colonial League championship with his fourth-grade team this year. The record will not show, however, that the banner was the result of eight years of work. Borges and the Packers defeated Bridgeport Saturday, 7-0, to win the title.
