King's Defense Sparks Victory Over St. Luke's STAMFORD, Conn. – With time winding down and King’s football team clinging to an 18-12 lead over St. Luke’s, the Stamford school needed just one more stop from its defense. And as it did all day, the Vikings delivered. Zach Mulhern’s interception sealed the victory for the Vikings, and clinched a New England Prep School Athletic Conference playoff berth. St. Luke's Football Has An Emotional Weekend NEW CANAAN, Conn. – In less than 24 hours, St. Luke’s football rode a wave of emotions that dipped to a season low before rising to the high point of the players' young careers. Now, the New Canaan school gets a chance to atone for its one slip this season. The Storm lost to King on Saturday, 18-12, for the first time this season, ending a 10-game winning streak. The loss appeared to have eliminated St. Luke’s from the New England Prep School Athletic Conference playoffs. Norwalk 4th-Grade Packers Fall In State Football Final NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Packers fourth-grade team lost to Hartford, 13-12, for the American Youth Football state title Sunday in Meriden. The Packers finish the season 9-2. “We’re happy with the season,’’ coach Bert Borges said. “The team was in every game. The kids are 9 years old, and they were nervous. Fairfield Woman Wins Half Marathon In Weston WESTON, Conn. – Meade Fogel expressed the sentiment of a lot runners in Sunday’s inaugural Reservoir Run in Weston. “It was a nice course for the first 11 miles,’’ the women’s winner said Sunday. “After that, it got a lot tougher.” Fogel won the women’s division of the 13.1-mile half marathon in 1:31:55, while Bristol’s Jason Dufour won the men’s race. Rippowam Wins Stamford Middle School Varsity Crown STAMFORD, Conn. – Rippowam Middle School surrendered its first touchdown of the season, but the Raptors came from behind Sunday to beat Trinity Catholic, 30-8, to win the Stamford Youth Foundation Middle School varsity division championship. Jon Michael Bivona ran for 90 yards and a touchdown and threw for two more to lead Rippowam (8-0). Tyrell Diaz also ran for two touchdowns. Norwalk Football Team Plays For State Title Sunday NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Packers fourth-grade football team meets Hartford Sunday for the American Youth Football state championship. Kickoff is set for 9 a.m. at Falcon Field in Meriden. The state winner advances to the New England championship Nov. 25 in Providence, R.I. The New England winner is eligible for the AYF national championship in Florida in December. Norwalk (9-1) advanced to the state game by beating Bridgeport, 7-0, in the Colonial League’s championship game. Nemo Harris scored the game’s only touchdown on a 24-yard run in the third quarter.

Greenwich Race Postponed Indefinitely GREENWICH – The Beachfront Bushwhack 5-mile cross country run and the Max’s Mile kids' run has been postponed indefinitely. The race had been scheduled for Sunday. Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich, the site of the race, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Threads and Treads, the race organizer, hoped to postpone the race for one week, but that fell through this week. An alternative date still is being sought. Outboost Computers Wins Norwalk Fall Baseball Title NORWALK, Conn. – Outboost Computers won the Fall Baseball championship in the Norwalk Recreation and Parks 7-9-year-old league. Outboost defeated Spanking Clean Auto Sounds in the final, 6-2. Mike Berkowitz, Peter Meyerson and Pierce Hingtgen combined for 14 strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the title game. The offense was led by Meyerson, who had two hits, including a triple. Tommy Bartley had two hits and four RBIs, while Cole Forcellina and Hingtgen also contributed RBIs.

Norwalk 8th-Grade Football Team Takes League Rose Bowl NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Packers eighth-grade Gold team finished its season with a 34-0 win over Monroe in the Rose Bowl of the Colonial Football League. The Packers finished the season 7-3 with wins in six of their final seven games. In two playoff games, the Packers outscored opponents 78-14. In the Rose Bowl win, quarterback Nick Granata threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns. He added 48 yards rushing. Scofield Runners Represent Stamford At State Race STAMFORD, Conn. – Three runners from Scofield Magnet Middle School in Stamford competed Saturday in the Connecticut Middle School cross country championships in Manchester. Josh Mensah, an eighth-grader, was Scofield’s top runner in 44th place. He finished the race in 14:06. The other Scofield runners were Chris Cordone and Alex Chuckas. More than 1,000 girls and boys from middle schools throughout the state competed in the races.
