Stamford Cheerleaders Ready To Compete STAMFORD, Conn – The Stamford Youth Foundation’s 12th annual elementary and middle school cheerleading exhibition will be Nov. 17 at Stamford High School. The exhibition was postponed for one week due to Hurricane Sandy. Elementary and middle school cheerleaders will perform their routines. There also will be individual skills competitions. The elementary program begins at 3:30 p.m., and the middle school program begins at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $12. Darien Girls Cross Country 4th At State Open DARIEN, Conn. – Darien sophomore Anne Johnston finished sixth to lead the Blue Wave to a fourth-place team finish Sunday at the State Open cross country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester. Darien finished with 217 points. League rival Ridgefield won the team crown with 83 points, followed by Avon and Glastonbury. Staples' Wynne Wins Boys State Open Title WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High’s Henry Wynne won the State Open cross country championship Sunday, becoming the first Wrecker to win the race in 25 years. Wynne won in 15:49, finishing nine seconds ahead of Newtown’s Jake Feinstein. The last Staples runner to win the Open was Tom Sheeran in 1987 and 1988. Ridgfield Girls Cross Country Wins State Open Title RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Laura Hergenrother’s third-place finish led the Ridgefield girls cross country team to its second straight State Open title Sunday at Wickham Park in Manchester. Ridgefield won with 83 points, a whopping 66 points over runner-up Avon. Sarah Guillaume finished seventh for Ridgefield. The Tigers’ other scorers included Caroline Carr (22nd), Melissa Budicini (37th) and Jeanne Jacullo (56th). Hannah Fleming and Molly Weeks comprised Ridgefield’s seven-girl lineup. Junior Claire Howlett finished ninth overall and earned a trip to this weekend’s New England championships.
