Stamford Cheerleaders Ready To Compete STAMFORD, Conn – The Stamford Youth Foundation’s 12th annual elementary and middle school cheerleading exhibition will be Nov. 17 at Stamford High School. The exhibition was postponed for one week due to Hurricane Sandy. Elementary and middle school cheerleaders will perform their routines. There also will be individual skills competitions. The elementary program begins at 3:30 p.m., and the middle school program begins at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $12. Norwalk Boys Soccer Earns Share Of League Title FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Nacho Navarro scored two goals Tuesday en route to game MVP honors as Norwalk defeated Wilton, 5-1, in the semifinals of the boys soccer tournament. The top-seeded Bears (16-1-1) will share the league title with Ridgefield, which defeated Greenwich, 2-0, in Tuesday’s other semifinal at Fairfield Ludlowe. Greenwich Boys Soccer Falls In Fciac Semifinals FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Kent Coleman and Connor Findlay scored first-half goals Tuesday to lift Ridgefield over Greenwich, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys soccer tournament. High School Playoffs Resume In Fairfield County FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – After a lengthy layoff due to Hurricane Sandy, high school sports teams return to competition Tuesday in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Semifinals will be played in field hockey, girls soccer and boys soccer. Finals will also be held in girls swimming and diving. Quarterfinals will be played in girls volleyball. Darien Girls Cross Country 4th At State Open DARIEN, Conn. – Darien sophomore Anne Johnston finished sixth to lead the Blue Wave to a fourth-place team finish Sunday at the State Open cross country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester. Darien finished with 217 points. League rival Ridgefield won the team crown with 83 points, followed by Avon and Glastonbury. Barlow, Weston Runners Finish Strong At State Open WESTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow’s Logan Fulton finished third overall and Weston’s boys cross country team finished 13th in Sunday’s State Open cross country championships. Fulton ran 16:22 for the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course. Staples’ Henry Wynne won in 15:49, followed by Newtown’s Jake Feinstein in 15:58. Staples' Wynne Wins Boys State Open Title WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High’s Henry Wynne won the State Open cross country championship Sunday, becoming the first Wrecker to win the race in 25 years. Wynne won in 15:49, finishing nine seconds ahead of Newtown’s Jake Feinstein. The last Staples runner to win the Open was Tom Sheeran in 1987 and 1988. The race was held at Wickham Park in Manchester. Wynne, who committed to run for the University of Virginia, has not lost a race this year. Ridgfield Girls Cross Country Wins State Open Title RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Laura Hergenrother’s third-place finish led the Ridgefield girls cross country team to its second straight State Open title Sunday at Wickham Park in Manchester. Ridgefield won with 83 points, a whopping 66 points over runner-up Avon. Sarah Guillaume finished seventh for Ridgefield. The Tigers’ other scorers included Caroline Carr (22nd), Melissa Budicini (37th) and Jeanne Jacullo (56th). Hannah Fleming and Molly Weeks comprised Ridgefield’s seven-girl lineup. Fairfield Prep, Warde Runners Have Mixed Open Results FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Prep’s Christian Alvarado finished fourth and the Jesuits took seventh as a team in the boys race at Sunday’s State Open cross country race at Wickham Park in Manchester. Fairfield Warde’s Cate Allen, one of the favorites in the girls race, did not finish and spent some time in the race medical tent afterwards. Westhill Girls Have Mixed Results At State Open STAMFORD, Conn. – Girls from Westhill High School had mixed results Sunday at the State Open cross country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester. Junior Claire Howlett finished ninth overall and earned a trip to this weekend’s New England championships. Senior teammate Nicole Ambrosecchio suffered a hamstring injury midway through the race and did not finish. She also was a contender to make her first New England race.
