Fairfield Wildcats Kick Off New Football Season FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Wildcats youth football teams kicked off the new season Saturday. There are more than 200 boys in the program, a 10 percent increase from last year. The teams have new uniforms as well, reflecting the school colors of Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe. The eighth grade team topped Westport North, 12-6. Danny King and Ross Gallace had touchdown runs, while Tyler Petry and Connor Byrne had interceptions. Greenwich, Stamford Rowers Finish 6th In London GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s Andrew Johnson and Stamford’s Alex Stein led the United States Mixed 4 rowing team to a sixth-place overall finish at the Paralympic Games in London. After finishing second in its first race, the U.S. crew finished second in Saturday’s repechage to earn a berth in the six-team final. Fairfield Giants Open Youth Football Season FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Giants Junior Pee Wee 2 team edged the Woodland Hawks, 12-6, to kick off the season in the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner youth football season. Nick Morris’ 15-yard touchdown pass to Finn Donelan produced the first touchdown for the Giants. Michael Innaimo scored on a 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to snap a 6-6 tie for Fairfield. Weston 8th-Graders Win In Football League Debut WESTON, Conn. – The Weston eighth-grade football team made a successful debut in the Fairfield County Football League with a 22-16 victory over Ridgefield on Saturday. Weston battled back after trailing 8-0 and 16-8. Weston took the lead with under one minute to play following an interception, then clinched the game with another interception of a Ridgefield pass on the final possession. It was team effort for Weston, which received contributions from its entire roster to pull out the victory. Westport Women Win Golf Honors In Fairfield WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s Jo Rasmussen and Chris Lorusso won the major women’s tournaments at Smith-Richardson golf course in Fairfield late last month. Rasmussen, who won the Longshore Women’s Golf Association title in Westport earlier this summer, added the Smith-Richardson title to her collection as well with a victory in the Club Championship. Lorusso won the President's Cup, a net tournament that takes handicap scores into account. Lorusso is also a member of the Longshore group.

Wilton U9 Boys Win Ridgefield Soccer Tournament WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Boys Under-9 Blue soccer team won the Soccer Club of Ridgefield Labor Day Tournament. Wilton went  4-0 in the tournament, outscoring opponents 20-0. The team defeated the Ridgefield Colts, 6-0; Southbury Sharks, 6-0; Newtown Blue, 2-0; and the Southbury Warriors, 6-0. Wilton Swimmers Set Club Records At County Meet WILTON, Conn. – Several Wilton swimmers broke club records and helped Shore & Country Club finish third at the Fairfield County Swim League county championships. The team’s third-place finish was the best in team history. Shore & CC finished fifth last year and ninth in 2010. Emma Holmquist set a club record in the girls 14-and-under 50-meter breaststroke, 37.65. Jill Rutherford set the old mark in 1978.
