Stamford Skaters Kick Off New Season STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Southern Connecticut Skating Club kicked off the start of the synchronized skating season last weekend at its annual summer clinic at Terry Conners Ice Rink.  Southern Connecticut Synchronized Skating is comprised of three teams. The Shimmers are the mid-level team. They will compete in the Pre-Juvenile division for the 2011-2012 season. The Sprites are the introductory level team. In the 2011-2012 season, the Sprites will compete in the Beginner division. Norwalk Triathlete Takes Long Road To London NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Nick Logan was determined to race next year in London at Triathlon World Championship. Logan achieved his goal the hard way at last weekend’s USA Triathlon National Championships in Burlington, Vt. Logan, 31, raced Saturday in the Olympic distance championship. He finished 178th overall and 30th in his age group for those eligible for London. Only the Top 25 in the age group qualified for next year’s race in London. Former Stamford Sports Star Touched Community STAMFORD, Conn. – A pair of former football teammates believe James Cobb, a scholastic star for Stamford High in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was as special in the community as he was an athlete. Cobb, 58, died Aug. 6 after a battle with cancer. He was a standout in football, basketball and baseball and helped the Black Knights win the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference football championship in 1970.
