Wilton Girl Wins Club Rowing Honor WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s Tory Babchak was presented with the Blue Dolphin award by the Connecticut Boat Club at its banquet Sunday at Woodway Country Club in Darien. The award is presented to the club’s senior rower “who has been a leader and an inspiration to others,” according to a release from the team. Babchak, a senior at Wilton High School, has been rowing with coach Liz Trond for seven years. Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club was established in 2010. Norwalk Golfer Earns Berth in U.S. Open NORWALK, Conn. – Rowayton’s Cameron Wilson earned medalist honors and a berth in the U.S. Open by winning a sectional qualifying tournament at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J. Wilson, a sophomore at Stanford University and a graduate of St. Luke’s, finished at 6-under-par 136 for the 36-hole tournament. He shot 71-65, with five birdies in his final 11 holes. Barlow Athletes Shine at State Open Track Meet EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow junior Logan Fulton finished fifth in the 1,600 and the girls 4 x 800 relay team set a school record to highlight performances by Falcon athletes in the State Open track and field meet Monday at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Fulton ran 4:20.54, a drop of nearly five econds from his seeded time of 4:25.06. The Wilton mom found out at her post-op appointment a week later, however, that it was only beginning. She had cancer of the appendix, which started a nine-month treatment plan that included several more surgeries and chemotherapy. During her trips to Stamford Hospital, she learned about the Connecticut Challenge Bike Event, the annual ride that supports programs for cancer survivors. Norwalk's Eneas Freyre Wins U.S. Duathlon Title NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Eneas Freyre won the USA Triathlon Long Course Duathlon national championship Sunday in Cambridge, Md.  More than 280 elite endurance athletes ages 16 to 75 from 29 states participated in the race, which consisted of two 10K runs and a 70K bike. Freyre, 36, a native of Greenwich and the head trainer at TargeTraining in Westport, won in 2:41:31. Defending champion Dave Slavinski of New Jersey was second in 2:53:32.
