Darien’s Kyle Wolfe might be the one player who can be mentioned in the same sentence with Powers. Wolfe, a sophomore, became the first player from Greens Farms to win the Fairchester Athletic Association singles title since Powers when he captured the title last month. Powers won the FAA title in 2009, was the No. 1-ranked junior player in New England and is having a terrific career at Yale University. Weston Girls Lacrosse Takes Turn for the Better WESTON, Conn. – It was only a few years ago, but the memory sticks vividly in the mind of Weston lacrosse player Catie Ledwick. In her freshman year, the Trojans went 4-12. “It wasn’t pretty,’’ Ledwick said. “We never moved the ball on offense.” It seems like light years ago now for Ledwick and the Trojans, who will try to take another step toward a second straight Class S state championship against Old Lyme on Monday. Westhill Softball Dances Into State Semis STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill High’s softball team played with purpose in Friday’s 9-1 win over Mercy in the quarterfinals of the Class LL tournament at Allyson Rioux Field. Fairfield County Boys Soccer Team Wins in Mass. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. --The Everton America Under-12 boys soccer team won a Memorial Day tournament last weekend in Needham, Mass. The tournament featured more than 400 players from 25 teams. Everton's 12-and-under team defeated Revolution United of Connecticut, Benfica SC of Massachusetts and Princeton SA of New Jersey in the group stages. Stamford White Sox Move Into First Place STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford White Sox improved to 6-1 in the Westchester Baseball Association with a 6-1 win Wednesday over the previously unbeaten Mill Basin Mariners. The victory capped a stretch of five games in four days for the first-place White Sox, who lead the Mariners by a half-game entering the weekend. Barlow Athletes Win Events at State Track EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow’s girls finished third and junior Logan Fulton won two events for the boys to pace a strong performance by the Falcons at the Class MM track and field championships Thursday at Veterans Stadium in New Britain. Brittney Dumas won the pole vault with a height of 10 feet for Barlow’s only win in girls events. The Falcons picked up plenty of points elsewhere, however, and finished with 49.
