Barlow Girls Take 3rd; Fulton Wins 1,600 at League Meet EASTON, Conn. – Joel Barlow’s girls finished fifth in Monday’s South-West Conference track and field championships while standout distance runner Logan Fulton won the 1,600 and finished second in the 3,200 for the boys. The Falcons’ girls team, which went undefeated during the regular season, finished , behind Weston, New Milford, Newtown and Pomperaug. Weston won with 102.5 points for its seventh straight league title, and New Milford had 102. Newtown (83) and Pomperaug (81.5) pulled ahead of Barlow late in the meet. Barlow finished with 79. Weston Girls Win Seventh Straight League Track Title WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s girls track and field team won its seventh straight South-West Conference championship Monday at Bethel High School. It may have been the Trojans’ most unlikely. It certainly was their most dramatic. With all but a few people long gone after a long wet meet, Weston scored 22.5 points in the pole vault – the final event to be tabulated – to nip New Milford. Weston finished with 102.5 points, while New Milford finished with 102. Fairfield County U13 Boys Hoop Team Goes to 22-3 FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Connecticut Premier Hoops U-13 basketball team comprises lower Fairfield County players and have compiled a 22-3 won loss record this spring against their U-13 peers. Their only U-13 losses have come against nationally ranked teams. Young Ballplayers Test Baseball Skills in Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. –Young ballplayers hit, ran and pitched Saturday at a competition hosted by Stamford American Little League at Gene Caporizzo Field. Boys and girls ages 7-14 had their skills tested at several stations. They were timed running from second base to home plate. They also tried a pitching accuracy test. There were also two hitting stations. The winners in each age group advance to a sectional competition on June 2. The competition is sponsored by Major League Baseball, and a few lucky players will advance to the finals during Major League Baseball's All-Star week in July.

Easton Triathlete Wins First Race of Season FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Easton’s Chris Thomas ran away from the field for an easy victory in his first triathlon of the season, the Harryman Olympic Triathlon Sunday at Harriman State Park in New York. Several of Thomas’ students at his fitness training facility, Personal Training Professions of Southport, also fared well. Westport Club Qualifies 7 Crews for U.S. Nationals WESTPORT, Conn. – Saugatuck Rowing Club won three races and qualified seven boats for the USRowing Youth National Championships next month in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Saugatuck’s winners included the Women’s Youth 2x team of Louise Freeman and Jo Gurman, the Men’s Youth 8+ and the Women’s Youth 2nd 4+. That crew did not advance to the U.S. Youth Nationals. Pineapple Runners Tackle Obstacles in Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. – Pineapples, not ponies, took center stage Saturday at the Greenwich Polo Club in the Pineapple Classic 5K With Obstacles. More than 500 runners of all ages and abilities attempted to complete the 5k course. Teams had to complete the course carrying a pineapple. There were some individual runners as well. Teams had as few as two runners and had to navigate obstacles that included 6- and 8-foot climbing walls, hay bales, hurdles and tunnels. There even was a three-legged challenge. Fairfield County Rowers Aim for Olympic Berths FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell and Weston’s Nick LaCava will be among members of the United States rowing team looking to secure a berth in the Summer Olympics in the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta beginning Sunday in Lucerne, Switzerland. Campbell will compete in the lightweight men’s double sculls with Will Daly of Vail, Colo. Campbell earned a bronze medal last year in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships and finished fourth in the lightweight single at the 2011 World Rowing Championships.
