Youngsters Can Test Baseball Skills in Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford American Little League will host a pitch, hit and run skills competition on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Caporizzo Field on Vine Road.  Players between the ages of 7 and 14 from all towns in Fairfield and Westchester counties are invited to attend. The free skills event is sponsored by Major League Baseball. Winners will advance to a sectional competition on June 2. Competition will be divided into four age groups and by gender. Westport Goes to Bat for New Softball Field WESTPORT, Conn. – The present and future of Westport softball crossed paths Wednesday prior to Staples’ varsity game against Brien McMahon High School. Supporters of the town’s softball programs also made more headway in their goal to raise funds for a new high school field. Staples defeated the Senators, 8-0, to clinch a berth in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament. Lacrosse All-Star Visits Young Westport Players WESTPORT, Conn. ? Young lacrosse players in the Westport Police Athletic League were treated to a complimentary shooting clinic Tuesday at Saugatuck Elementary School. The clinic featured Stephen Peyser, a Major League Lacrosse All Star and former college All-American.  Peyser won two national championships at John Hopkins and a gold medal for the U.S. in the World Games. Peyser offered tips and techniques for shooting and, after the event, signed autographs.

New Canaan Fury U13s Win in New York Tourney NEW CANAAN, Conn. ? The New Canaan Fury 13-and-under baseball team defeated Team Mizuno USA, 5-3, in the 2012 Spring Challenge at Baseball Heaven on Long Island.  Anthony Ferraro threw a complete game to earn the victory.  The Mother’s Day match-up came after the Fury lost to two teams on Saturday.
