Warde Girls Track Team Drops a Pair FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Warde’s girls track and field team came into Monday’s meet against Darien and Danbury undefeated. The Mustangs were overmatched, however, against two of the premier teams in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Darien defeated Warde, 115-30, while Danbury posted a 79.5-55.5 victory over the Mustangs. Warde won two events, with Cate Allen taking the 1,60 and freshman Lia Joham capturing the 400. Staples Track Athletes Have Big Weekend WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples won the large school division of the Greater Hartford Invitational and Lexie Schachne won the girls' pole vault in the Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y., in another successful weekend for the Wreckers’ track and field athletes. Staples ran away with the Hartford title with 117 points, beating Conard by 25. Henry Wynne won the 800 and the Wreckers were second in five other events. Darien Gymnasts Win 5 Titles at Regional Meet DARIEN, Conn. – Travel and house teams from Darien Y Gymnastics combined for five first places in seven levels at the YMCA Regional Championships in Glen Falls, N.Y. The competition attracted 30 teams. One of the team's youngest gymnasts, 8-year-old Christina Pizzani, placed first overall among the Level 4 competitors, with a 37.5 all-around score. Norwalk, Wilton Runners Pace Mother's Day Field NORWALK, Conn. – Familiar faces on the Fairfield County running scene grabbed the top hardware at Sunday’s Mother’s Day 10-kilometer road race in Norwalk. Norwalk’s Eneas Freyre, who won the Greenwich biathlon just a week earlier, and former champion Mary Zengo of Wilton raced to easy victories in the race at Calf Pasture Beach. Nearly 400 runners entered the race and enjoyed ideal conditions with warm temperatures and only a hint of a breeze. The race is sponsored by Lightfoot Running Club.
