"I am very proud of my skaters for all of their hard work this season. Former Norwalk Star Tops Win List at Pitt NORWALK, Conn. – Former Norwalk High pitcher Matt Iannazzo became the career win leader at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday in a 4-2 victory over the University of Hartford. Iannazzo, a senior left-hander, picked up his 25th career victory to surpass Corey Baker, who played from 2008 to 2010. Iannazzo is now 4-0 on the season. In the win over Hartford, he pitched eight strong innings with seven strikeouts, one walk, seven hits and two earned runs. He started the ninth before yielding to a relief pitcher. Westhill Diver Wins State Open Title STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill High School diver Sean Burston won the State Open championship Thursday and teammate Robbie Katz finished ninth at the event at Hamden High School. Burston, a sophomore, finished with 494.5 points to become only the third Westhill diver to win a State Open title and the first Vikings diver to win the event since 1985. Fairfield County Rowers Competing in National Race FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Rowers from Fairfield County got off to a good start Thursday in their bid to make the U.S. Olympic team during the first day of the National Selection Regatta 1 and Speed Order in Chula Vista, Calif. New Canaan’s Charlie Cole, Rowayton’s Brian de Regt and Weston’s Nick LaCava all competed Thursday. The meet continues through Saturday. Westport Soccer Tournament Kicks Off Saturday WESTPORT, Conn. – The 32nd annual Westport Invitational Soccer tournament kicks off Saturday with games scheduled for girls teams ranging from ages 9-18. Boys teams will play Sunday in the tournament at Staples High School. The tournament is hosted by the Westport Soccer Association, and benefits the Coleman Brothers Foundation and a scholarship fund to assist families of travel players enduring financial hardship. Westport Faculty Plays in Youth Basketball Benefit WESTPORT, Conn. – There will be a basketball fundraiser for the Westport PAL, featuring the world famous Court Jesters, March 30 at Staples High School. Norwalk Grizzlies Football Opens Registration NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Grizzlies Police Athletic League football team has opened online registration for players in grades 3-8. Registration is free for the first 150 players. The team begins practice in August, and plays against teams in the Fairfield County Football League with squads from Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Ridgefield. Youngest Wahoos Splash Down in Final Meet WILTON, Conn. - The Wilton Y Wahoos youngest swimmers made a big splash at the annual end of the season 9-and-under meet held at the Wilton YMCA last weekend. This marks the end of the short course season for most swimmers. Swimmers ages 6-9 participated in this meet along with teams from around the tri-state area. The 6-and-under category was lead by Whitney Hess, who won a gold medal in the 25 free, 25 fly, and 25 breast. She also placed third in the 25 back.
