Staples Runners Have Record-Setting Weekend WESTPORT, Conn. – The Staples’ boys track team put the finishing touches on a spectacular winter season this past weekend with two school records and All-American honors in the sprint medley at the New Balance Indoor Nationals meet at the Armory in New York City. The sprint medley relay team finished sixth and set a school record of 3:29.4. The foursome of Zach Mitchell, Max Hoberman, Jon Heil and Henry Wynne earned All-American honors with their achievement, which came in a race Saturday. Westport Girl Wins Basketball Skill Contest WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s Claire Meehan won the seventh-grade girls 1-on-1 championship Saturday in the Fairfield County Basketball League at Weston High School. The contest was part of a skills competition by the league in its season-ending weekend. Other contests included speed dribbling and three-point shooting. Meehan also played a key role for the Westport PAL girls as they won the championship in their bracket with a 34-31 win versus Fairfield.

Meet Darien's 8th-Grade Basketball Champions DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien YMCA Blue eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated New Castle of Westchester County, N.Y., 60-51, to win the AA bracket of the Fairfield County Basketball League.  Darien, coached by Kevin George, finishes the season 16-6. Team members include Hudson Hamill, Drew Rolapp, Tim Graham, Brendan Hoffman, Jamie Schofield, Baylor Stewart, Andrew Enzor, Geoffrey Parnon, Aidan Coyle and Mark Evanchick.

Fairfield 8th-Graders Nipped at Finish FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Police Athletic League eighth-grade boys basketball team fell to Madison, 50-49, in the championship game of the Fairfield County Basketball League A bracket championship game Sunday at Weston High School. Norwalk Youth 7th-Graders Capture County Crown NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Youth seventh-grade team captured the Fairfield County Basketball League division A title Saturday in a hard-fought 56-53 victory over Pathways Academy of Danbury. The win marked the second straight county championship for the team after last season's BB bracket victory. To advance to Saturday's game, the Norwalk Youth defeated St. Theresa's of Trumbull, 46-43, in the quarterfinals and beat Redding-Easton 56-54 in semifinal action. Darien 8th-Graders Capture County Crown DARIEN, Conn. – All game long, Darien YMCA Blue coach Kevin George implored his team to “get there” on defense. His eighth-graders did just that, and they walked away with a Fairfield County Basketball League championship as a result.
