Darien Eighth-Graders Reach Title Game DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien YMCA Blue eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Carver Center of Norwalk, 61-55, on Sunday to reach the finals of the Fairfield County Basketball League AA Division Tournament. Darien will meet New Castle in Sunday’s championship game at 4:35 p.m. at Weston High School. Darien has compiled a 15-6 record under coach Kevin George, including an 8-5 mark in league games. Field Filling Up for Wilton Open Paddle Tennis WILTON, Conn. – The field is filling up quickly for the Wilton Open platform tennis tournament, scheduled for Saturday, March 24, at the Wilton YMCA and several other local clubs. The “B” Draw for the tournament is already filled with 32 teams. The Open draw is nearly filled and includes several nationally ranked players. The 29th annual event is the longest-running platform tennis event in Fairfield County. The Wilton Y, Wilton Riding Club and six other neighboring clubs host matches. Wilton Fifth-Graders Fall in Tourney Semis WILTON, Conn. – A strong season for the Wilton fifth-grade boys basketball team ended Sunday with a 49-33 loss to St. Theresa of Trumbull in the semifinals of the A Division of the Fairfield County Basketball League playoffs. Wilton, sponsored by Pinocchio Pizza, finished the season 17-11 under coaches James Bargon and Bill Farmakis. Wilton advanced to the semifinals with a 25-24 win over Greenwich in the quarterfinals. Wilton Wahoos Sweep Short Course Titles WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Y Wahoos were named the men's, women's, and combined team champions at the Connecticut Short Course Regional Championships at Southern State University.  The following Wilton swimmers scored points for the team and had a top six finish to medal in their events and help with the win. Running Series Has Record Field in Norwalk Finale NORWALK, Conn. – Tim Milenkevich of Ansonia and Wilton’s Mary Zengo were the top men’s and women’s finishers Sunday in the Boston Buildup 25-kilometer race that started and finished at Silvermine Elementary School in Norwalk. Milenkevich paced the record field of 252 finishers over the hilly 15.5 mile loop in 1:27.57. Zengo won the women’s race in 1:45:28. Staples Ballplayers Help Westport Kids WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Staples baseball team conducted a clinic on Wednesday and Thursday last week at the high school for Westport Little League players. Staples coach Jack McFarland and his team gave the young ballplayers pointers on baseball basics as they prepare for the upcoming season. Staples opens its season April 6 at Ridgefield. Wilton Wahoos Win 26th Straight State Title WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Y Wahoos won their 26th straight YMCA state swimming championship with strong performances in each of the age groups. Greenwich Relay Takes Second at New Englands GREENWICH,  Conn. – Greenwich’s track and field team finished second in the 4 x 200 relay to lead an outstanding night for the Cardinals in the New England Track and Field championships Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The team of Marcus Motill, Elijah Dume, Nick Pulitano and Ryan Kelly ran 1:30.28 to grab second. Chelmsford, Mass. won the race in 1:29.83. Motill and Kelly both did well in individual events.
