Xtreme Cheerleaders Jump to a Winning Start NORWALK, Conn. The Xtreme cheerleading team won two events and finished second in another as the squads kicked off a new season of competition at the JamFest Cheer and Dance event last weekend in Worcester, Mass. The Norwalk-based Xtreme cheerleaders, coached by Mike and Dana Talbot, include athletes from Fairfield and Westchester counties. The Blaze, Xtremes Co-ed Level 3 team, took first place at JamFest. Notre Dame Beats Bunnell in Season-Opener FAIRFIELD, Conn. Notre Dame of Fairfield boys basketball coach Vin Laczkoski did not see much that he liked out of the Lancers in Thursdays season-opener against Bunnell in the Newtown Tip-Off Tournament. And that was after a 65-53 victory over the Bulldogs. Its not a good effort when youre not playing the proper defense and youre not moving the ball, Laczkoski said. Were better than that. Teams Sought for March Baseball Tournament STAMFORD, Conn. Babe Ruth Baseball of Stamford will host its seventh spring jamboree tournament April 14 to 22. Teams will be scheduled to play three games per day and can choose their schedules. Last year, 32 teams from the tri-state area played in the tournament. Cost per day will include umpires and baseballs. Most games will be played at Cubeta Stadium. Babe Ruth, AAU and Independent teams are welcome. The new president of the New Canaan Youth Football League believes the burning of trophies by an eighth-grade team was an aberration and not reflective of a widespread issue of poor behavior by league coaches. Wilton 5th Grade Boys Win a Pair WILTON, Conn. The Wilton fifth-grade boys won two hard-fought games against strong opponents in the Fairfield County Basketball League. Wilton, sponsored Pinocchio Pizza, beat Westport, 34-29, in a game that was close until the end. Greens Farms Throws Scare Into Hamden Hall WESTPORT, Conn. Defending Fairchester Athletic Association champion Hamden Hall rallied in the final minutes Wednesday night to defeat Greens Farms Academy, 61-54, in boys basketball. Hunter Eggers scored 12 points and Sean Obi scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Dragons (3-2 overall, 2-2 league). Staples' Rally Falls Short in Season-Opener WESTPORT, Conn. The Staples High boys basketball team has just two players back from the team that reached the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoffs last year. That inexperience showed early Wednesday as the Wreckers lost to Norwalk High, 59-49, in Westport. The Wreckers committed 17 turnovers, including 14 in the first half.
