NORWALK, Conn. – Kids from the Norwalk-based Next Generation diving team competed last weekend at the Instead of the Spinner Invitational in New Jersey. Weston’s Liam Simmons finished 10th on the 1- and 3-meter boards in the boys 12-and-13-year-old division. Fairfield’s Ava Golden won the 9-and-under 1-meter intermediate board, and she finished third in the 3-meter in the girls 9-and-under novice division. Stamford Babe Ruth Seeks U13 Players STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford Babe Ruth 13-and-under travel team has been invited to compete in the 2012 Diamond Nation 13U tournament in Flemington, N.J. Games will be played the HealthQuest Sports Dome from March 9 to 30. Players interested in joining the Stamford team must be available on those dates and able to travel on weekends and to practices. A minimal cost will be charged per player. The league is hoping to have one or two teams for the tournament. A tryout may be held in February. But the Wildcats continue to meet every one of them. The girls won their fourth straight national championship over the weekend at the American Youth Football national championships in Orlando, Fla. Staples 4th, New Canaan 6th in Final State Poll FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Staples finished fourth and New Canaan sixth in the final state football poll conducted by the New Haven Register. The poll is selected by members of the Connecticut media. Norwalk finished just outside the top 10, with 225 votes, while Greenwich received 84 votes.
