Stamford Junior Legion Falls in Title Game STAMFORD, Conn. Bristol took an early 4-0 lead against Stamford in Sunday's American Legion Junior Division state championship game, put brakes on the Zone 4 champion's running game, and captured the title with a 6-3 win at Muzzy Field. Stamford (23-8) battled from behind all game after Bristol scored three in the second and one in the third. Stamford got within 4-2 on Jeff Cortese's two-run double in the fifth. Norwalk Ripken 11 All-Stars Fall in States NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Cal Ripken 11-year-old All-Stars saw their season end Saturday with an 8-7 loss to Newtown in the state championship game at Danbury. Norwalk would have needed to beat Newtown twice in the championship bracket. Newtown handed Norwalk its only prior loss, 10-6, in the winners' bracket final. Norwalk bounced back with a win over Oxford to set up the rematch on Saturday. Saturday's loss was a heartbreaker for Norwalk. Norwalk Softball Team Stays Alive at Regional NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Riptide 14-and-under softball team stayed alive in the New England Regional Saturday with two victories and one loss. Norwalk is one of three teams remaining in the tournament, and plays in the losers' bracket final Sunday to earn a berth in the championship round. Fairfield Softball Falls in East Regional Final FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield Little League Girls Softball team went down swinging right to the final out. Trailing 9-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in Saturday's East Regional championship game against New York, Fairfield scored five runs and brought the tying run to the plate twice before the rally fizzled. Stamford Junior Legion Advances to Title Game STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford's American Legion Junior team advanced to the state championship game Saturday with a 14-4 victory over Zone 4 rival Trumbull. Anna Rasmussen slammed a two-run double to chase in the go-ahead and winning runs in the fifth inning Friday night as Fairfield defeated Maine, 7-6, to win the New England Region softball championship in Bristol. Norwalk Cancer Center Team's Ready to Ride NORWALK, Conn. Wilton's Tom Brewer couldn't say no. When people asked him to join a team riding in the Connecticut Challenge, he quickly agreed. "I embraced it early. It seems like a good cause, raising money for awareness for cancer survivors," said Brewer, whose team represents the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital. The Stamford White Sox rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to defeat Mill Basin Mariners, 3-2, in the Westchester Baseball Association semifinals.
