Bronson Road Changed Lives of Fairfield Family FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield's Dianna Cutler believes her husband's life was saved because of a bike ride more than five years ago on Bronson Road near Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. The trek was once part of the Connecticut Challenge. The course has changed but not Cutler's outlook. "I am,'' she said, "gratified for that hill." Cutler will ride in Saturday's Connecticut Challenge with her husband, Peter, and children, Garrett, 11, and Elizabeth, 9. Three Divers Sweep County Crowns FAIRFIELD, Conn. Divers from Stamford and Darien won two events apiece at the Fairfield County Swimming League championships Monday at the Patterson Club in Fairfield. A diver from Riverside won one event. Stamford's Sean Burston, competing for the Long Ridge Club, won 14-and-under titles on the 1- and 3-meter boards. The Stamford White Sox, defending champions of the Westchester Baseball Association, play the Mill Basin Mariners Thursday at 8 p.m. at Cubeta in the first round of the league playoffs. Fairfield Softball Resumes Regional Play FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield Little League Girls Softball team picks up again Thursday for a quarterfinal game in the East Regional in Bristol. The next three games are elimination contests for Fairfield, which went 3-1 in pool play. Norwalk Cal Ripken 11s Fall to Newtown NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Cal Ripken 11-year-old All-Stars have shown a fondness for come-from-behind wins this season. They'll need to do it in the state tournament, too. Norwalk lost to Newtown on Wednesday night in Danbury, 10-6, in the winners' bracket final. One-Time Norwalk Ballplayer's Essay Wins Award WESTPORT, Conn. Westport baseball player Noah Yokoi won an essay-writing contest sponsored by Minor League Baseball. For his efforts, Yokoi visited a New Britain Rock Cats game where he and three other boys threw out the first pitch. He also earned a trip to Vero Beach, Fla., the headquarters for Minor League Baseball. Yokoi's essay focused on how baseball bridges the gap between cultures. Luchansky Leads Strong Effort by Wahoos WILTON, Conn. Wilton Wahoo swimmer Katy Luchansky finished fourth in the 400 free and helped the 200 medley relay team to a fifth place finish in the YMCA Long Course National Championships on Tuesday at Georgia Tech. The Wahoos are in third place in the meet with 195 points. The women's team is second out of 44 teams, and the men's team is 18th out of 48.
