Norwalk Woman Rules the Road Again NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk's Julie Heaphy enjoys running on the roads in her hometown — and she has the hardware to prove it. Heaphy, who won the Mother's Day 10K last month at Calf Pasture Beach, ruled the roads again Saturday in the 34th annual Lightfoot Running Club 3-mile race at Norwalk High School. She covered the distance in 17:38 and finished fifth overall in a field of 199 finishers. Heaphy, 29, tied a 29-year-old age group record set by Dede Grace in 1982. Triathletes Make Waves in First Westport Race WESTPORT, Conn. — Suzie Snyder moved to Virginia from Connecticut last year. When she returned to Westport on Sunday, it was just like old times. Snyder won the women's division while Enfield's Jim Ball captured the men's race at the first Sherwood Island Sprint Triathlon. Targetraining sponsored the race, which consisted of a half-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. Nearly 200 athletes too part in the race. Weston Girls Relay Scores 2nd at National Meet Weston's girls track team finished second in a sprint medley relay Thursday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. The team of Sara Dietzman, Ellie Martin, Callie Arlo and Kara Bucaro ran 4:12.68 in the Emerging Elite division. They finished just behind Columbia Track Club of New Jersey, which ran 4:12.24. Staples Girl Vaults to 3rd at National Meet Staples High School junior Lexie Schachne finished third in the pole vault Thursday in the Emerging Elite division at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Schachne cleared 11 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Chelsea Vaughan of Manahawkin, N.J., won with a leap of 12 feet, 3 ¼ inches. Kristen Lee of Raleigh, N.C., took second.
