Prep Runner Takes 7th at National Meet Fairfield Prep junior Connor Rog set a school record in a seventh-place finish at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals track and field meet in Greensboro, N.C. Rog finished seventh in the 5,000 meters in 15:03.27. Edward Cheserek of Newark won the race in 14:25.74. Rog was the top runner from New England. Rog finished second in the State Open 3,200 earlier this month. He is one of several Fairfield County athletes who competed Thursday at the New Balance meet. And this year, like last year, it was gold. Charlie Campbell, Henry Franco, Scott Yanoff and Jonathon Rosow won the Men's Youth 4x at the race in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Norwalk U15 Lacrosse Team Finishes 15-1 The Norwalk Junior Lacrosse Association Boys U15 White team capped off a tremendous season by winning the CONNY Silver Division championship with victories over New Milford and Newtown last week in New Haven. The team finished with a 15-1 record. In the championship game, Norwalk avenged its only loss of the season by beating Newtown, 8-3. The team was one of the most successful in the Norwalk program's history, coach Jim Lyons said. "These young men exceeded my expectations; I'm just delighted and pleasantly surprised,'' Lyons said. Career Switch Helps Former Pro Turn to Tides Norwalk's Nick Rhodes retired after three years of playing professional baseball in the Tampa Bay Rays farm system. When Rhodes returned to Connecticut, he was working nearly 100 hours a week in the restaurant business. "I finally realized I make my own schedule and do something I love,'' he said. Rhodes, 32, now runs the Connecticut Tides baseball program. He started six years ago with one team. Now he has four teams, from 14-and-under to 18-and-under, and most of the players come from Fairfield County. The teams play 45 to 50 games a season, and the coaching staff includes stars from the …

Tane Wins Buck Tournament in Westport WESTPORT, Conn. – Defending champion Alison Tane came up a winner again in the George Buck Tournament of the Longshore Women's Golf Association. The victory was special for Tane, who grew up learning the game from Buck. He was the teaching professional at Longshore in Westport from 1962 until he died in 1991. The final match of the three-week tournament came down to a face-off between Tane and Diana O'Donnell. Tane led 1-up entering the 18th hole, and they tied on the final hole to give Tane the victory.
