GA's Women's 4+ of coxswain Heather Miller, Amanda Young, Nina Demmerle, Galen Hughes and Caroline Ostrover will compete in the U.S. Youth National championships this weekend in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Young is from Port Chester, N.Y. All of the other girls are Greenwich residents. Westport Soccer Star Got a Kick Playing for UConn The ironic part for Ken Murphy as he was inducted in the University of Connecticut wing of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame was sharing the limelight with Gregg Hutchings. "Gregg and I went to school together,'' said Murphy, a soccer star for the Huskies in the 1970s. "We played against each other when we were in high school. It's amazing that we're both here now." Rockets, Warriors Crowned Softball Co-Champs The Anytime Appliance/Law Office of Mattthew Brovender Rockets and the Intelisearch/Giglio Electric Warriors were crowned co-champions at Norwalk High School Field on Tuesday, as they went 10 innings before darkness fell with the championship on the line. The final score was 4-4 in Division III of the Norwalk Athletic Association softball league. It was a fitting end to a game that neither team would give up. For Fairfield County's recreational athletes, several Main Street Connect communities and nearby towns will host races and triathlons to satisfy all ages and abilities. The racing weekend kicks off Friday in Greenwich with the Cook Your Buns 3-mile race at Tod's Point. There are no area races Saturday, but on Sunday runners can choose between races in New Canaan and Wilton. Tryouts Scheduled for Norwalk Soccer Teams The Norwalk Junior Soccer Association will hold tryouts for its travel teams at the West Rocks School Upper Field. The girls teams will tryout on June 18. The under-9 and under-11 girls begin tryouts at 10 a.m. The under-10 and under-12 teams begin at 11:30. Stamford, New Canaan Runners Win Hope in Motion 5K Stamford's Anatolie Vartosu and New Canaan's Hope Krause led the men's and women's fields, respectively, in the Hope in Motion 5K race Sunday in Stamford. The 5K saw 694 finishers. The event, which also included a bike ride and walk, raised money for Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center. Vartosu, 40, won the men's race in 16:12. Tryouts Set for Norwalk Summer Basketball League Tryouts will be held for three Norwalk boys basketball teams in the Fairfield County Summer Basketball League. The league runs from June 27 to July 30 and consists of 10 games against teams from neighboring towns. Games are held at Darien High School. Boys currently in grades 4 to 7 are eligible. Guerin won her second straight Connecticut State Interscholastic Athletic Association girls tennis crown Wednesday with a 6-0, 6-1 win over seventh-seeded Hannah Dahlem.
