Staples, Hirschberg Net State Tennis Titles Danny Hirschberg won the Class LL individual championship as the Wreckers won the team title Thursday at Yale University. No. 1 seed Hirschberg captured the singles title with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 2 Tyler Kratky of Greenwich. Hirschberg, a Westport resident who will attend Brown University, did not drop a set in the march to his second straight Class LL title. Hirschberg opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Newtown's Ricky Fuentes. Norwalk High Hosts Athletics Fundraiser The Norwalk High School athletic department is hosting its second annual silent auction and fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the American Legion on County Street. Proceeds from the event support Norwalk High School's sports teams. The evening will include cocktails, music and items up for bid. Columbus Kids 'Tri' Their Best Gemma Warde was one of the big winners last Saturday at a triathlon held for students at Columbus Magnet School in Norwalk. The first-grader won the girls division in her grade, in which students swam in the Norwalk High School pool, rode bikes in the parking lot and finished by running on the track. Standout Rower Selects Notre Dame Darien's Stephanie Winsch, a senior who competes for New Canaan Crew, has committed to attending the University of Notre Dame, coach Martin Stone announced Tuesday. Winsch rowed for all four years at New Canaan, which competes out of the Norwalk-based Maritime Rowing Club. She is serving as the team captain this year for New Canaan Crew, which wraps up its season this weekend at the U.S. Youth Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Cook Your Buns Friday in Greenwich Race The Whole Foods Cook Your Buns Run and BBQ begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Tod's Point in Old Greenwich. The event includes a 3-mile cross-country race, a 1-mile kids' run and a barbeque afterward. The pre-entry fee for the 3-mile race is $20. Race day entry is $25. For the 1-mile kids' race, the fees are $15 pre-entry and $20 post-entry. Anatolie Vartosu of Stamford won last year's 3-mile race in 15:25.
