New Canaan's Run Ends in State Semis New Canaan's Run Ends in State Semis New Canaan's Run Ends in State Semis
New Canaan's Run Ends in State Semis Opportunities abounded for New Canaan throughout Tuesday's Class L baseball semifinal against Farmington. Unfortunately for the Rams, clutch hits did not. The 13th-seeded Rams fell, 2-1, to the 21st-seeded Indians at Nolan Field in Ansonia. Farmington (17-7) advances to the championship game Friday or Saturday. New Canaan (16-9), which has never won a state baseball title, will look back and relive the innings in which it left the bases loaded twice. The Rams stranded 13 runners in all. "That's the story,'' New Canaan coach Mitch Hoffman said. "We've been getting those runners in most of t…

Westhill Sprinter 4th in 100 at State Open Westhill senior Dillin Smith keeps getting faster. Unfortunately, so does his competition. Smith ran 11.08 in the finals, faster than when he won the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship. He also beat his preliminary time, which was 11.17. But Smith still could not catch Bulkeley's Donarth Thompson, who ran 10.86 to win the race. Danbury's Dele Owoye, who Smith beat in the FCIAC race, was second in 10.96. Smith also finished eighth in the 200. The …
